Description
Fabulous c.1961 woodblock etching titled Ancient City, by the world renowned artist Irving Amen! This piece was deaccessioned from the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts and was purchased in 1961 by them from a gallery representing the artist at the time. This is an exceptionally low edition number for Amen, being #9 of a run of only 40 impressions! Given the age, there is certainly a fair likelihood that this is the only example currently in existence.
The frame was badly damaged during transport, so I have removed the woodblock from the frame and it is being sold as shown.
The total paper size is 22 3/4″ tall and 34″ wide, with a prior matted image size of 19″ tall by 32″ wide. A new mat and frame would be a quite reasonable amount for this size.
It has the obvious signs of prior framing, but I do not see damage.
